Our upstairs neighbor arrives at seven AM to remind us of our lunch date. She’s 24 and one of the spunkiest people I have ever met.
She returns again at noon and we follow her upstairs. We sit cross legged on the floor and she and her mother pile loads of food onto giant cardboard and tin foil like plates. We get a new kind of rice, some potato curry, and a few other things. As usual I’m going to have a hard time eating this much.
We’re eating with our fingers, but not quite doing it right so or neighbor sticks her hand in Ally’s food and starts mixing the rice and curries together for her. We all laugh, especially Ally and for the rest of the meal we joke that this woman is Ally’s mother, showing her how to eat.
Each of the homes in this apartment building has a little space built into the kitchen to hold idols. The first night we were here we kept a Bible in ours. Now it’s currently  being used to store a pair of flip-flops. Hers is all decked out with symbols of her Hindu faith.
We chat with this spunky neighbor of ours for awhile, and then she says, “You’ve come to teach people about Jesus.”
Yes, we reply. Normally we say we’re students and have come here to study. But this woman has figured us out.
“Teach me something about Jesus,” she says.
So Michael does. At first she interrupts to ask about Noah and the ark, but we tell her that comes later.
After Michael is finished, we tell her that if she has any questions at any time she can just come and ask us.
“I can come ask you?” she says. “If I have a question, why should I keep it inside? Then I will never get answer.”
She says she doesn’t have much of an interest in Hinduism, she just goes to the festivals. And then she agrees to come to church with us on Sunday!
Please pray for our sweet, spunky neighbor. She’s searching for the truth, you can just see it, so pray for Sunday. Pray God uses us during our time here to show her His love.
