Honduras was a place of hope. God showed me I can hope in Him. He showed me the beauty of His people who have hope in Him no matter what. We worked at Loyalty School this month. I had the privilege of teaching the oldest group of students, the 7th to 9th graders.
Since it was a small school, it was a multi-level classroom. I got to teach them English: Language & Literature, Communications, Writing and Bible all in the short time we had together. We only had 2 weeks in the classroom since the school was off for Easter break for a week and we were leaving a couple of days after that.
It was great to get to see the students again after they returned from their break and before we left the next day. The whole school saw us off. At that point, I thought I was doing alright with holding back the emotions of saying good-bye, something that is hard at differing levels and in different ways for people, but never easy.
For me, just because I am used to saying good-bye, doesn’t make it any easier. I appreciate the people I meet and get to know. Even in a short time, relationships can be rich and the start of a lifelong friendship, especially when you are sisters and brothers in faith.
But then, just when I thought I was doing so well, the students started singing us a song. To wish us well and say good-bye. It was in Spanish, but it spoke to our hearts so clearly and strongly. The language of the heart and the language of God knows no barriers, as we have been learning thus far and as I have experienced on my prior travels as well.
As they sang, God filled my heart with His love and I was realized how thankful I was for my time in Honduras. That was when it hit me. These precious children of God’s we might not see again, but as our host said, he hoped he would see us again, but if not, we would see each other in heaven.
The song was a beautiful send off from the hearts of our students, then it was followed by hugs from everyone! The whole school of 35 or so children gave us good-bye hugs! I picked some of the little ones up, spinning them and making them laugh.
Earlier that day, as we finished our Bible study and were going to start saying our good-byes, two of my students ushered me out into the hall to give me a good-bye gift. My heart was so full as I saw that my students had taken it upon themselves to make a good-bye T-shirt for me. They all signed their names and wrote sweet messages on the shirt in different colors.
I was so in awe and thankful for this sweet outpouring of love that showed me I had made a positive impact on them, even in the short time there, thanks to God. I had prayed at the beginning of the time that God would use my time there, as it would be short and with a language barrier, to reach my students’ hearts for Him. To show them His heart for them and how much they were loved.
I knew it was nothing I could do on my own, but I so thankful that God showed me He did use my time there for His glory and purpose. I spoke redemption and life and freedom and love over my students whenever I got the chance. I told them how loved they were and how they were all created for a unique purpose for God. I told them how much God loved each one of them so deeply.
Some of our students went with us to see us off at the bus stop and even helped us carry our luggage! It was a sweet send off and I really appreciated and will remember the school on the mountain top. Please pray this next month with me for my students I taught in Honduras. I am making a commitment to pray for them this whole month and would love your help!
My students in order from left to right: Daniel, Keren, Valery, Eunice, Andrea
Thank you!
I am still fund-raising! I am just under $3000 away from meeting my final goal to be fully funded for the World Race! This will allow me to stay on the Race and continue to minister to children and teens as well as women and men around the world who need to hear of God’s love for them. Who need to hear they are wanted and accepted by God. Who need to hear how they can be set free in Christ, just as you are now or can be by going to God and asking for His help. By confessing your sins to God and confessing that Jesus is Lord.
Romans 10:9- If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
