Hola!! I just wanted to give you an update on what I have been doing the last couple of days here in Quito. We stayed a nice hostel in downtown until Sunday. The last few days a have been filled with re-focusing ourselves and getting reacquainted with our teams. Each team was asked to make a video on what it looks like to change the world. I will try to post my team’s video sometime in the future. The funny thing is that while making the video we had a chance to meet people and talk to them about Jesus Christ.
One special moment that I have had so far involved me being able to witness to three street boys. When we were filming our video we asked if they wanted to be in it. They said that didn’t and that they were hungry. I talked with them for a few minutes and then I decided that I would buy them lunch. They took me to a place that they liked and they ordered their food and I paid. I then sat with them as they ate and we talked about a bunch of different things including church and whether or not they believed in Jesus. They said that they did and that they enjoyed church. Then without prompting the older boy asked what age I was saved at and so I told him and then they told me their stories! Once they were finished eating I asked if I could pray with them and they agreed. So we prayed and then we parted our ways. It was an amazing experience to have on only the second day of the race!!
On our “fun day” my squad went to the equator and then went to the top of a mountain in Volcano Park. It was a beautiful view of Quito and the surrounding mountain ranges.

Now for some details on where my team will be going for ministry. We are traveling to a village known as KM-17 which stands for 17 kilometers outside of a city called Nueva Loja which is the largest jungle city in Ecuador. It is about nine miles from the Columbian border and our contact said it is one of the toughest places they send a team. He also said it was “hot, humid and buggy with lots of weird noises”. Isn’t that wonderful, lol. This month will certainly be a challenge but I am looking forward to it. We will be working with an Indian group and doing things like building wells and interacting with them so that we can build-up some trust. We were told that it takes them a while to trust Americans/white people because their land has been exploited by oil companies among other things. Please continue to lift my team up in your prayers!
I don’t know the next time I will have internet but it most likely won’t be for a month.
