Romania was full of opportunities to share the gospel. One opportunity we had came towards the end of the month where we had a chance to help with two free Eyeglass Clinics. During one of the clinics, I was able to be a counselor and pray with people while asking them if they knew about Jesus.

While I was talking to one woman in particular, I was overcome with the feeling that she just didn’t understand God’s amazing love for her…none of them did. The Holy Spirit in me was grieved at seeing so many people who were deceived, whose eyes were blinded. I patiently listened to her talk about how she knows Jesus came to die for everyone and then I asked her a simple question, “Do you know that God loves you?” It looked as though that thought had never occurred to her. She just sat in her thoughts for a moment and I tried to explain that God loves her and that’s why he chose to send His Son, Jesus, to die for her. That God wants to know her and have a relationship with her. Before she left I prayed over her, asking God to reveal His love to her but that woman has stayed in my mind since that day. I can’t get over the look on her face. She broke my heart and I only had the smallest bit of God’s love toward her.
The sad truth is that Romania and all parts of the earth…my home town, even…are full of people just like this woman. People who know of God, who have maybe even heard of Jesus, but they don’t know the truth of the Good News we as Christians know. How many people does God put in my way that I pass by because I’m busy doing “ministry” or running errands? How many people can my life touch if I get out of my own head and seek God’s Kingdom?
Last month I talked about how God is growing me in community. I even shared something with my squad a month ago. But I don’t think God wants me to be better at community just so I can have a blessed life. I think it has something to do with the fact that once I get out of “me” and learn to operate in the kind of community that Christ offers, I can be more effective in His Kingdom. And isn’t that what this whole life is about anyway?
Below, I’m sharing a video that my squad mate Kirsten Reilly made for the Eyeglass Clinic, but I want to leave you with this question: What are you doing about the people God is putting in your way?
Be Blessed!
