Since being called to The World Race, God has been teaching me lessons in unexpected places and circumstances. This past Saturday was no different. Some friends from my small group bible study and I went white water rafting on the Ocoee River in Tennessee.
When we arrived at the lodge for check-in, the group prior to us was getting geared up and the guides where assisting. One of my friends made a comment about how muscular the guides were. I noticed one guide in particular who looked like he just stepped out of Men’s Health magazine. He was ripped! When I’m around guys that look that good, I immediately start judging them. I was thinking, “I bet he’s extremely conceited. He probably knows he looks good and isn’t afraid to let everyone else know too. I bet he’s a punk.”
When it was our group’s turn to head out we were assigned guides. And God knew that I needed to learn a lesson, because Mr. Men’s Health was assigned to be our guide! My friends and I couldn’t help but laugh about it.
When we got to the river, we officially met Travis and my first impression of him when I MET him was completely opposite of my first impression of him when I SAW him. He was laid back, friendly and easygoing, but knowledgeable and professional. A true Southern boy. When we got on the river we all started talking and getting to know each other. Long story short, he’s a brother in Christ and he’s moving to Marietta (where my friends and I live) to go to school in the fall. I truly believe that God put our group with Travis. We exchanged contact details and I truly hope that he will join our bible study when he moves to town.
From now on, we I’m tempted to starting judging someone I’ll thank of Travis. God used him to teach me a very important lesson and we had A LOT of fun too!!
“Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful. Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do
not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give,
and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and
running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it
will be measured to you.” Luke 6:36-38
