Going on the World Race!

So I tried to make a video blog explaining how I was called to The World Race.  But after multiple attempts at making a video blog, succeeding at it only to have it accidently deleted, I decided to give up and go ahead and write this.

I have had a heart for missions for a very long time.  I use to read stories about amy carmicheal and Elizabeth Elliot when I was younger and my heart feel in love for people who are lost and hurting.  So many people in this world are hurting, lost and desperate.  I learned of children who were sold into sex slavery and temple prostitution.  I learned about people who were hungry and and destitute.  I also learned about people who were serving and sacrificing their lives to share the gospel.  Hearing these stories inspired me as a babe in Christ.  We live in a broken world but there is Hope in Jesus Christ and I have a heart to share this hope with others.

In college I went on my first missions trip to the Dominican Republic with a college group from Adventures in Missions.  That trip changed my life.  I felt like I was finally doing exactly what God had called me to do with my life.   After the trip, I prayed earnestly that God would send me back to the Dominican as soon as possible, but God had other plans.  I ended up going to Guatemala for a missions trip during my last year in college.  I stayed there for 2 months and I have to admit that it was extremely hard.  I worked in an orphanage and the children were sick very often.  They had chicken pox, scabies and the measles.  I ended up getting chickenpox and scabies.   I was also taking classes and it was difficult taking classes, and working in a country were I could not speak the language.  I stayed with a wonderful family but they could not speak English and we had a lot of fun trying to communicate using charades.

After a few years, I had the opportunity to go back to the Domincan with my church.  I lead a missions trip to visit our churches in the Dominican Republic and do medical missions.  It was a great learning experience and I began to see that God was calling me to full time missions.   After doing some research about mission opportunities I came across the World Race.  Once I read about it I was hooked.  I stalked the blogs and it was always on my mind.  I wanted to get into full time missions and develop a program like the world race at my church.  I thought the World Race would be a wonderful place to start, were I can learn about living in true community and figure out how I can make an impact in this world.

I am so excited for the lessons God has in store for me.  I know the World Race is the next step in my life and Im anxious to learn and see the transformational change that will take place in my life.
