March 2010 Newsletter

Well, I have made it back to Kansas City and I will be here for the next 6 months before heading out on the
September 2010 World Race. I am really excited for this next season because I just got a job with Life Time Fitness,
and I have also been spending a lot of time in the prayer room at the International House of Prayer. Additionally, I have been
playing a lot of guitar and I am also looking into getting involved with the Latino and Evangelism Ministries here.
I want to utilize this next season before the race as a time of refreshment, study, and preparation for what God has in store,
and I pray that this upcoming year as we go to the ends of the earth we will reach the often forgotten and forsaken.
I can't thank you enough for all your support, prayers, and investment in my life.

The following will answer some of the questions that you may have and will also provide you with personal
contact info, ministry details, testimonials, a support update, prayer requests, and tangible needs that I have for this trip.
Also, remember to click on "Update Alerts" and type in your email address to receive automatic updates to your email.

Who Is Adventures In Missions?

Adventures In Missions (AIM) is an interdenominational missions organization that focuses on discipleship,
while emphasizing prayer and relationships in their work amongst "the least of these". Since being established in 1989,
AIM has taken over 80,000 people around the world to be the hands and feet of Christ,

seeking to raise up a generation of radically committed disciples of Jesus Christ.

What Is The World Race?

The World Race is an 11-month Christian mission trip to 11 different countries around the world,
and it's not your typical missions experience.  It's a way for twentysomethings to abandon a traditional lifestyle
in exchange for a paradigm-shifting experience.  Through adventure, ministry, community, and self-discovery,
World Racers develop broken hearts that propel their hands to move for God's kingdom around the globe.
And the best part of the World Race is it's merely the beginning of a greater life-long adventure…

Participants travel in squads of around 50 people from country to country and then break up into smaller teams of 5-8 people,
taking only what can be carried in a backpack. Through their experiences, teammates learn to depend on each other, while also learning how to care more and live with less. The best part of the World Race is it's merely the beginning of a life-long journey.
As these missionaries discover the world's deepest needs and how to meet them, many find their true identity and calling in life.

What Does Ministry Look Like?

Compassion Ministry

  • This is an outward expression of Christ's love. Examples could be orphan care. hospital visits, prayer for those in need, etc.

Evangelical Outreach

  • This is the presentation of the Gospel and God's word. Examples could be door-to-door evangelism, crusades, opportunities to preach, Vacation Bible Studies and more.
Service Ministry
  • This is about the church being the hands and feet of Christ Jesus. Examples could be English teaching, construction projects, ground care, other physical labor, and more.

Church Plant Outreach

  • This ministry is about establishing church bodies in new locations. We seek to partner with local pastors and churches to develop church plants.

What Are Previous Racers Saying?

"The World Race is about saving me, saving me from a life of complacency. Saving me from comfort. Saving me from a life where
I fulfilled my dreams but not necessarily God's dreams for me. And while the World Race is focusing on saving me,
I'm learning that it's not about me at all. I'm learning that the world is not about me. Even my own life isn't about me.
I'm learning to dream God's dreams. I'm learning who I am. I'm starting to find the true person that God created in me."
Brady Denger (June 2007)

"That night, we saw the deaf hear, the blind see, and many people with back pains, headaches, stomach pains, and all sorts of afflictions healed right in front of us! That sort of thing became regular, or as regular as miracles can become. "
Eric Hanson (January 2007)

I can sum up my World Race experience in one word: Kingdom. Because in that word is the depth of true community,
God's heart for the orphaned, widowed and sex-trafficked, a hope-filled way to engage the world and the fullness of God
which is the love of Jesus. And I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is nothing else I want to give my life to.
Nate Evans (January 2008)

How is Support Coming Along?

Total Support Needed: $14,300
Current Support In AIM Account: $2,674
  Balance Still Needed: $11,626

Thank you so much for all of your donations that have come in so far! In the month of February alone we raised $2,337.
This is fantastic! However, one thing to note is that the best way to donate is by check to Adventures In Missions with
"Appealed by JD Russell" in the memo line, because online credit card donations have a 5% service fee. There has been
$48 deducted from my account because of service charges, so remember that those tiny charges can really add up.

Also, if you would prayerfully consider partnering with me monthly that would make a huge difference. A little bit can go a long way!
If I have 25 people commit to donating just $20 a month for 10 months that would be $5,000. That is over 1/3 of my trip's cost!
Would you consider committing to a monthly gift to support me?

How Can I Donate?

Written Check
  • PROS: No fee deducted. Sent directly to AIM's bank where it is deposited. The bank then sends an image of that check to AIM's accounting department to apply toward my support.
  • CONS: Can take up to 2 weeks from the date you mail the check before I expect to see it in my support account.
Credit and Debit Card

  • PROS: Quick and efficient. Able to setup automatic monthly withdrawals. Easy online access.
  • CONS: 5% fee deducted from my support account which goes to the credit card company to pay for that convenience.
Bank Draft
  • PROS: Still quick and efficient online access.
  • CONS: 3% fee deducted from my support account which goes to the processing company to pay for that convenience.

What Are JD's Prayer Requests?

  1. That I will utilize these next 6 months wisely, diligently, and effectively in order to prepare myself for this year-long mission trip around the world (Col. 1:9-11).
  2. That my teammates and I will be a unified body of Christ that walks in power, love, and compassion (Rom. 15:5-6). You can find out more about my teammates by clicking on this link, The September 2010 World Race Team.
  3. For each individual country that we will visit and that God will open up a door for the Gospel everywhere we go (Col. 4:2-6). Here is the list of countries that we will visit in order, along with 1 other country that is yet to be determined (Philippines, India, Nepal, Thailand, Cambodia, Pioneer Southeast Asia, Romania, Ukraine, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya).

What Are JD's Tangible Needs?

  1. Sleeping Bag (Rated for at least 35 degrees)
  2. Sleeping Bag Liner

I can't thank you enough for being a part of my life and the investment that you have made. I pray that I will be able to bless you as
much as you have blessed me. Please call or email me if you have any prayer requests, and I would be overjoyed to pray for you. And let me know if there are any suggestions or support raising ideas that you may have (Cause I could sure use 'em).

Thank you so much for joining me this year to minister in 11 different nations that God desperately loves and desires.
Let us never stop being the light of the world, a city set upon a hill, and the salt of the earth!
