Some of the best times I have had in Africa were when people in a church grabbed me from my seat during a praise song to go and dance with other locals in the front of the church. Times like this used to mortify me. Dancing is hard enough, now you want me to do it while people can see me? No Thanks. But after it happens for the fourth and fifth time, that embarrassment seems to flee. I also came to realize something – Here in Zambia and Malawi no one cares if I can dance or not, and at this point of it happening so many times I’m not bothered if they do care. It’s always so fun! It’s such a joyful time when I get to dance with locals in the Lord’s presence.
We all have different stories, different pasts and different reasons why we choose Christ. Now we get to dance together in joy and laughter as we praise our Creator. He is the only One worthy of my praise. The only One who pulled me from the life I was living with a call to be greater. I was nobody, and was on my way to nothing when God showed me I was somebody, and I wasn’t just anyone, but I was His. You see, God doesn’t call us what we are yet, He calls us who and what He knows we are capable of. I am no longer self-conscious or embarrassed to dance in front of people because they are not who I am dancing for. I am dancing for the Lord, and He is worth the little bits of awkwardness in my life, He is worthy of my joy and praise. He, and He alone, is worthy.
