What about those that have gossiped about
us, cursed us, hurt us deeply and just flat out hated us…do we still love them?
John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he
gave His only begotten son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but
have everlasting life.
God’s love is a gift. If you look at this
world there is so much selfishness, violence, greed…evilness. No one is
perfect but God. We all have told a lie here and there, called someone a bad
name, gossiped, and done things that we know we probably should not have done. We’ve
all felt jealousy, envy, and even hatred.
However, we can also love. We love our
friends and family. We love those that have similar interests as ourselves. We
love those that we get along with easily and those that are simply nice to us.
BUT what about those that have gossiped about
us, cursed us, hurt us deeply and just flat out hated us…do we still love them?
OR do we do exactly what they did to us- gossip, curse, hurt, and hate them?
Realistically most would WANT to retaliate in the same ways as their “enemy” and
sadly many do. But the fact that there is a desire in us to hate our enemy
shows our human nature. We can easily love but we can also easily hate. Even a
murderer can love those that are on His side, but hate those who are not.
God calls us to love and to “bless those that
curse you” because as Christians we have been forgiven of our sins. When we
hurt God by sinning and falling away from Him, he forgives us; as long as we
truly REPENT and strive to turn away from that particular sin. Just as He
forgives us He wants us to forgive others. He desires for us to extend grace to
others.
Ephesians 2:8
For it is by grace you have been saved,
through faith–and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God.
God sent His son, Jesus Christ, who He loved
so much to die on the cross in our place. He paid our price, he took OUR
punishment because He loved us. This gift is for everyone who
desires to receive it. He offers love, forgiveness, authority, grace, mercy,
confidence, freedom from worries and anxiety. He says that we are His children
and He desires for us to love Him, but He gives us a choice. God does not want
to force us to love Him. God wants us to love Him of our own free will. All we
have to do is acknowledge Christ as our Lord and Savior and live our lives
freely just like it says in the bible. We have been set free. There is no law
against love and that is what God calls us to do- love with His love.
To work with God’s love is to do a task
without expecting recognition or honor. To give with God’s love is to give
without expecting something in return. To love with God’s love is to
consciously make the DECISION to forgive and LOVE those that have done you
wrong.
