Being here in Bulgaria for this first week has already led me to understand more of how the world works.
How the ever-present groan of those in need rumbles louder and louder throughout the lands.
What is the cause of it?
What causes countless numbers of individuals so much trouble?
This week we have been working in a city in Bulgaria that is very unreached with the Gospel. So unreached that according to the Joshua Project, around 90% of people in this area have never been taught the Gospel.
90%!!
Crazy right!? With all the capability we have at talking to people thousands of miles away and showing people things through video that we have never been able to before, there are still places that have yet to hear about the redemption that is Jesus.
This should not be true.
This week our host had us help him do several things to help out.
- Clean out his backyard. We were clearing this area of all the grass, weeds, and other obstructions that would hinder him adding onto the building. Which… will be the first non-orthodox church in the area! Here’s a couple before and after pictures…
Before.
After
- Clean his garage. There was a fire not too long ago that caused everything inside to be covered in black residue. Most of this inside is to be put inside the church, anything from tables, books/Bibles, cabinets, toilets, sinks, etc…
- We went to the stadium almost every night to run the track, play soccer with the local kids, and whatever else we could think of.
- We also, went and talked with this widow that’s in town. She’s 80 years old and lives in the old part of town. This was such a blessing to go to her house and see the joy on her face as we sang to Jesus. Our Host goes to see her every Thursday morning to share with her. She isn’t able to go to the church service he leads since she can’t walk that far.
- And on Saturday some of us were able to go with our contact to villages in the mountains! This was an awesome experience that I will most likely have a blog for just on its own, so I won’t go into too much detail now. However, we stopped at five houses. One, to pick up someone. Two, we had a worship and prayer meeting with the locals. Three, we shared and prayed with this older lady that is one of the only Christians in her village. Four, we prayed for this very sick man, our contact shared the Gospel with him (since obviously we don’t speak Bulgarian), and he accepted Jesus! And the last stop was a random haircut… haha!
