Ok , so I was reading Genesis the other day and came across Genisis 5, you know the passage that lists the geneology of Adam to Noah, and I remembered something I had heard from my youth group leader in Middle school about the name meanings creating a prophecy , So I went in search of all of the information for it last night, and found it and wanted to share it with you all in case you had never seen it before because it’s pretty Awesome!!
So I’ll start with the meanings of the names.
Adam — Man
Seth — Appointed
Enosh — Mortal
Kenan — Mourner (sorrow)
Mahalel — blessed God
Jared — Came Down (descended)
Enoch — Dedicated (teaching)
Methuselah — Through his death it will come (his death shall bring)
Lamech — Miserable (despairing)
Noah — Rest (comfort)
So the prophecy is laid out like this:
“Man (is) appointed mortal sorrow; (but) the blessed God shall come down teaching (that) his death shall bring (the) despairing rest.”
or another way people have laid it out is
“Man (was) appointed mortal. (Because of his) mourning, the blessed God came down dedicated (that) through his death it will come (that the) miserable (might have) rest.”
It just depends on which version of the name you choose to use to determine which way you can write the prophecy but basically it says the same thing, which is this:
That God knew from the very beginning exactly how everything was going to play out and there was no coincidence with how anything occured.
Now this takes me to our trip and how God knew when he created us that we would one day embark on this mission and that not only did he set us apart for this but he also set apart the people who would finance the trip. So whether or not we can see it yet, God has already put everything into place! It’s no coincidence that we are here doing what we are doing, God has known all along this was going to happen and he knows what each of our future holds, and it is all in his hands. So, remember to be faithful in our fund raising and to remember that God’s got it all mapped out we just have to do our part in order to see it come to pass!
