My Friends!

Since we have been preparing for the World Race, I have had one huge concern. It seems silly, but I have serious motion sickness. I have always carried Dramamine in my purse and have the motto of, “Never leave home without it.”

So, when we had our first night out with our team, I was strangely encouraged to see fellow racers near vomiting because we were driving around.

The main reason I default to Dramamine is because it is the only thing that is fool proof and works. Among the list of things I have tried are ginger pills, ginger ale, special oil to rub behind the ear, prescription patches, wrist bands, and just simply toughing it out. Also, I have been seriously debating accupuncture and/or hypnosis. If you think I am joking, it is that serious!

However, this is a redemptive story. After we left camp, we went to REI and I found bands called PSI bands. In the past, I have tried a version of these, but they were unsuccessful. Evidently though, the motion-sick fairies have been working long and hard on improving such bands. I bought them for $15 and we drove home for approximately 22 hours. And…I never once had to take Dramamine!

The bands are strong plastic and are adjustable to fit as tight or as loose as you want them. ALso, there is a dial that has three settings for different levels. The dial sits on a certain pressure point in the wrist. I might have bruised my wrist because I wanted to be extra sure that I had the right place, but they actually did make me feel better. I am eager to try them on an airplane, but overall they were a success for me.

There is hope!

This doesnt mean that I wont be taking Dramamine in my bag just in case, but I definetly think that the bands will help lesson the yucky feeling of being car sick.

I hope this helps my fellow car sick friends! We miss and love you all.
