Launch
July 3 – July 7
So for those of you who don’t know, Launch consists of more lessons on travel. I had to arrive a day early along with a couple of other people from other teams because we all have an extra responsibility on the team. It breaks down like this.
“R” Squad (53 racers)
Then we are broken down into teams of 6 and 7 my team is named
“Talitha Cumi” (see previous post for meaning).
We are an all girl team.
Most other teams have at least 2 males.
Within each team we have a Team Leader who attends meeting with logistics and keeps in contact with Staff of adventures in missions while we are at our mission locations. They keep the rest of the team informed on what we are doing for the day.
Each team also has a Treasurer who gets a budget from Adventures staff at the beginning of the month and keeps up with receipts and makes sure the team stays on budget.
I am our team treasurer and the first 2 days I was in training on how to keep track of receipts, how to manage the money and keep a detailed spreadsheet of our spending. Then we had another 2 days of presentations about safety in other countries, and things to and not to do or say in other countries. We also had some great worship and prayer time.
Travel Time!
Then we left on the 7th, and the rest of the days just blurred together as we flew from one day to the next crossing many time zones. I had reached a point where I didn’t know what time or day it was. Turns out we had about 11 hours of flight time, and a 24 hour bus ride to Albania, plus time at airports and such.
Total 53 hours of travel.
We are at a camp affiliated with world vision working with kids from age 7 to about 18. Today was my first day and it was interesting to play with kids and have n way of knowing what they are saying. They are so cute, they are teaching me a little Albanian.
We don’t have internet at camp so we have to walk to a local pizza shop to use internet. I will do my best to keep you all posted! Thank you all for your prayers!
