Ever since I met her over two years ago (almost 3) it has been nothing but sweet moments. Laura and I became fast friends right before I moved to South Korea in 2015. She actually bought the car I was trying to sell at the time because hers was totaled. We stayed in contact almost weekly while being 12 hours time difference away. Upon my return she drove an 1 1/2 hours out of her way to come get me so we could spend a week or so together.
She is one of those people that goes above and beyond for those she cares about. While I knew her and her younger sister. I really didn’t know the rest of her family. She even had a brother I didn’t know about until the day I met her right after my return to the states.
This family quickly became part of my support system. They helped me fundraise. They donated for the race. They prayed for me. I was instantly part of their family. They took me in without any questions and it was natural.
So imagine returning from the race. I didn’t get to stay in as great of contact due to wifi and time constraints. However, that didn’t change anything. I came back, Laura picked me up and I am now living with her till I move to Texas in the Spring/Summer next year.
I went to their house 3 days after returning to spend Thanksgiving with them. They didn’t mind adjusting some of their cooking to cook with out onions for me. They didn’t mind giving me space when I was way overwhelmed. They also didn’t mind and still don’t mind when all I talk about is my time overseas. They even invited me along to their annual family day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
This family has been a lifeline of sorts for me since I met them. I am so blessed to be a part in a small way of this family!!
Having one of the twins tell me while standing in line for a ride that I fit in and acted just like his aunt’s and uncle made my heart swell and brought joy to my heart. You know you’ve made it when a 12 year old tells you you are apart of his family.
Reentry has been really rough for me. Not being able to find a job or a car. Seems you need one for the other. I am working teaching children online, but bookings have been extremely low lately. I am also still working on my online teaching certification program. That is going well. I found some study cards to help me be ready to take the content exams and be able to apply for a teaching postiion.
