Ever since I was accepted into the race, like most racers, I had my highs and lows. Somedays I was super pumped about leaving and other days the idea of it freaked me out. It wasn’t until a couple of weeks ago where I first thought about switching to a January route. After all I didn’t have all my gear, I was an emotional and spiritual mess, I definitely haven’t been working out enough for that physical fitness requirement, and I don’t even have money to buy my ticket for training camp! The thought of leaving at a later time seemed easier. After all that would give me more time to get my life straightened out, to get my gear and possibly leave fully funded right? Every time I brought up the idea of switching to friends and family, they all would say the same thing, “you will never be fully ready to leave.” I wrestled with it for weeks, but through it all, I kept feeling a tug on my heart from God telling me to just trust Him. “But God, you know I’m not even where I’m suppose to be spiritually, I’ve messed up too much, I’m not where I use to be.” In my mind, I had to have it all together to go on the Race, but God has been showing me that when we are broken, it is when we need Him the most. I should go on the World Race just as I am and He will meet me there! You see, we don’t have to have it all figured out to come before God. If we had it all figured out, we wouldn’t be in need of a Savior. God says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). We are also reminded that in our weakness, He is strong (2 Corinthians 12:9-11). Come as you are, and I promise he will not only meet you there, but use you in the midst of your brokenness.
P.S. This is not to say that those who switched to another route made a mistake. I had to switch from my July route to September. God has a plan for each and everyone of us, but I just wanted to encourage you (racer or not) and say that even if you don’t feel ready, God knows you are. Trust Him!
P.P.S God has not only provided me with gear, but a way to get to training camp! God is so faithful ahh! Thank you to everyone who helped make these things possible! Would you pray for my squad and I we head to training camp on Monday? Love you all!! God Bless 🙂
