How YOU Can Help Fight Human Trafficking

First off we are working at SHE Thailand http://www.shethailand.org/. Which started in 2006, SHE (Self Help and Empowerment) is a
Christian charity committed to helping women and children at risk in
Thailand, many of whom are trapped in the commercial sex trade. SHE is
dedicated to providing employment, vocational training and counseling
for women who want to help themselves out of this industry. All
proceeds go directly to helping them find employment, community,
friendship, restoration, and above all restoration of their own value.  

 

So our team this month will down to Bangla Road frequently (red light district) which has 100’s of bars full of women in the sex trade.  The goal is to release these women from the bondage they are in and give their lives value.  SHE will employ these women with jobs in jewelery making, cookie baking, and chocolate confection if they decide to leave the sex industry.  Through SHE these women will begin to acknowledge their value and worth before God.  Their lives are worth so much and through SHE they will begin to see that.

 

So how do YOU get these women out of the bars?  Well it all starts with a drink… In order to start a conversation with these women and sit down at their open air bar one must buy a drink.  A coke costs anywhere from 40-80 Baht which is equivalent to 2 or 3 American Dollars.  Buying a drink is an invitation to speak with the women working the bars.  Once the drink is bought we had some amazing conversations tonight with the women in the bars.

 

Let me tell you about the women Annie, Nicole, and I met tonight…. The names of these women I will leave out for their own protection.  The first woman was a mere 18 years old from Bangkok.  She loved talking with us and basically told us her life story.  She spoke on the men who try and use her to have sex.  She told us how she stands up for herself.  We told her she is worth so much more then selling herself.  We told her that she was beautiful.  We told her we would be back to talk with her again soon and she said “see you tomorrow!”  We met a few more women but the last woman I met really stood out to me.  After talking for a little while I asked her if she likes what she does here at the bar.  She responded immediately with “No, I hate it!” I asked her why she stays and she told me this is the only way for her to make money.  I could just tell she was starving for a way out of this lifestyle.  After we told her we had to leave for the night, she whispered into my ear, “please come back!” That broke my heart, knowing I was leaving that night and going back to our safe house, while tonight she would probably be sleeping in some dingy hotel room with a foreign man.  How desperately I want to get these women out of this lifestyle and into a life where they realize their worth and see themselves as God sees them not as man sees them.

 

But again this all starts with a drink… buying a drink is our in, to getting these girls out of this life in the commercial sex trade and human trafficking.  Each bar we go into we buy a drink.  The more drinks we buy the more women we have a potential to impact.  So this is how YOU can help…  YOU CAN BUY A DRINK.  Even 2 dollars for a single drink has the potential to get one girl out of the sex trade.  So I challenge YOU today… even if you can only afford one drink, send that 2 dollars to my house so I can use that money to try and get these girls out, help me fight for justice for these women!
