Sunday morning before church I was just sitting with a couple of the boys waiting for our van to arrive. For a while we were sitting there awkwardly when one of the boys said “Let’s talk about life!” I was like… “Okay if you want to” (quite unsure how much we would really be able to talk with the language barrier). Then it was to decide who went first. Another boy spoke up and I thought this ‘life’ talk would be about daily life (school, chores, friends), but this boy went into almost a full testimony. He explained how his parents separated a few years ago and that was hard for him. And then how it was a battle for awhile. But then a couple of years ago he and his brother came to Kedesh and when he went on to talk about his life since Kedesh he said “and now my life is good.”

I chose the original idea boy to then go. He didn’t talk much about his past before Kedesh but was sure to tell me that since Kedesh his life “has been very very good.” The third boy that was with us speaks a little English and only laughed at me when I asked him, but laughter shows joy and happiness right?

All of these boys have their own personality, own strengths, and most important: their own stories. But all of the stories mesh once they enter into Kedesh. They learn so much here not only about life and making something out of it, family and friendship, but also the Lord and learning to live a life dedicated to Him.

Kedesh has truly changed these boys more than we may ever know. Because of Kedesh, these boys have a future that they may never have had before. These boys are able to dream. These boys are able to make a difference in the young generation of Mozambique. My team is so blessed to be able to serve here for a month and this is a place I am definitely going to miss when it is time to move on.
