After a month in a place, you are to learn some valuable life lessons. Here are some lessons I have learned this month. There are also some fun facts thrown in there as well.

1.Sleep is for the night.I LOVE naps and I would mention this to the jungle boys and many times I would be told that sleep is for the night and work is during the day. One day I mentioned that I couldn’t sleep at night and a jungle boy told me it was because I took a nap during the day instead of working. How kind of him.

2. Nothing comes easy. Whether it is trekking through the jungle for who knows how long in order to bathe or to begin cooking at 4pm in order to eat by 7pm, everything takes work and lots of it.

3. Planning is for Americans. It’s killing me not knowing the plans for our week or even our days. In the beginning we started out with this giant calendar and slowly we began to use to it less and less and now I don’t even know where it is. I like to be flexible and go where the Lord leads, but it seems here everything is unknown or decided upon last minute.

4.Soccer/volleyball can be played anywhere. Whether it is on a soccer field, a freeway or a muddy backyard with clothes lines at goals. When you have a ball and people, you play.

5.There is plenty of room for error. When a song is messed up during worship. Simply sing it again. No problem.

6.Breakfast is a small meal, lunch is the biggest (usually with 2 courses) and then dinner.

7.Rubber boots and machetes are much needed materials. We bought rubber boots our first day here and have used them ever since. Usually for working, but natives use them as their everyday shoe… even to play soccer in!

8.You bet money when playing soccer games. And pray to God that you win and don’t have to pay the rough jungle women any money.

9.Kids have a good work ethic. Even though they are on winter vacation, many days we had helpers when working. But then again what else do they have to do in a town so small except hang out with the gringos.

10.In a town so small, what to do on a Friday night? Sit at a store, watch a movie if one is playing. Or just even watch the traffic go by. The other night, the gringos playing volleyball was certainly the entertainment for the evening.
