Ministry here is great. In the mornings we are doing construction. The basics of course. Primarily moving the dirt and making paths, digging holes and moving giant rocks. So every morning we walk about a mile down the road to where Incalink has purchased some land in order to build an academy to train missionaries from these small villages. When everything is finished, I know it will be a great ministry. It is still very much in the beginning stages.
In the afternoon we have variety of ministry opportunities. A lot of them involve going out to the community and making visitation calls. We also have opportunities to do youth ministry, children ministry and go to other churches in order to help with the services. We are very much immersed in the work that Pastor Ivan has began here and we are excited to expand on it and help it to grow.
Some fun things that have happened :
1. Got to go to our first supermarket. They had bugspray and everything, but no laundry detergent. Who needs clean clothes??
2. Arriving in Huauticocha, we go to see the property, and a fellow community member brings a pig to Pastor Ivan. We go to see the huge pig transferred from a truck to the pig pen (hence the name of my blog. I love pigs and so of course it was the highlight of my day)
3. 6 gringos (white people) and 3 Ecuadorians running to catch a bus.
4. Making friends with Isaac (the pastor’s son) in order for him to bring me free cookies.
5. A separate toilet for going Number 1 and Number 2.
6. Working in the rain, sleeping to the sound of rain, and being wet all day from morning rain.
7. Eating homemade pan de chocolate (chocolate bread) YUM!!
8. Jumping off a bridge 30 feet into a river.
9. Giving a message all in Spanish.
10. Hiking up a muddy mountain in rubber boots and a skirt.
