I found out about a week ago that I would begin my race on July 12th, 2011, but the place was still up the air. We all thought Peru was the first stop since it was first on our route list. But today we find out different. I get a text from my leader telling me he is changing things up a bit and that our first ministry month is in Ecuador and more than this, it is in a village called Hautiocha which is in the jungle. I tried to Google this place to try to find out some information, but came up with nothing. All that came up on the Google search was from previous world racers blogs. So I guess that is the information I am going to go off of.
- Hauticocha is a 6 hour drive northeast from the capital of Quito.
- The closest city (with internet access) is 25 miles away.
- We need to be prepared to eat worm shish-kabobs, and who knows what else they eat in the jungle
- Be ready for funky bugs/spiders and giant moths and other animals not known to US civilization
- Starting the Race off right… with squatty potties
- We will be "showering" in a river that is also home to piranhas (that are attracted to dead things. So as long as I don’t die in the river, I am probably safe)
- Our ministry details include: Working with village/visitation/VBS. It does sound pretty open ended so I am ready to be obedient and open minded to ministry God has for Ecuador.
And even though Peru was kinda put away (for a later date), I am super stoked for this ministry month in Ecuador. And especially the jungle. I have been in the Costa Rican Jungle before, so let’s see how the Ecuadorian jungle compares!
