We were surrounded by the mountains the entire month, and they absolutely breathtaking. This country holds such beauty.
We were told before we arrived at our ministry location that on the 19th and 20th we weren’t allowed to leave our house due to elections and the strikes. We were basically on house arrest. That was fun.
During debrief at the beginning of the month, my team (minus Owen) went white-water rafting and on our off day later in the month, we went to an elephant safari where we able to ride elephants! They were easily my two favorite excursions since leaving the states.
There was a small restaurant at the end of the road near our house where we ate lunch everyday. What’s awesome about this restaurant is it’s inside World Race budget ($1 per meal). I ate chicken chow mein everyday (chicken and noodles. Yum.) and I’ve become fond of fried eggs with toast. Who am I?!
Aladdin pants. (I don’t have a picture of them, YET. Just imagine it. Ever heard of MC Hammer? Imagine those pants.)
After a month of bucket showers where we had to obtain our water from a well and squatty potties in India, we were extremely blessed to have showers and toilets! Sometimes, if you were lucky enough, your shower was warm!
The last five months have taken a toll on my pillow pet, Winston. I wish I had a picture to show “how much weight he lost” since traveling the world. Due to his weight loss, my neck was suffering. So, a friend and I bought a pillow and re-stuffed him! Never would I ever have done this in the states. Oh, how the World Race changes you. Don’t worry, the surgery was successful.
I have finally mastered the art of hand-washing my clothes. It only took five months. The trick is letting them soak for 30 minutes, just in case you were wondering.
This month was cold, very cold. A jacket was needed 95% of the time. It’s weird. “Cold” now means 65 degrees during the day and mid 40s at night.
We had a lot of down time this month, so a group of us played spades a lot. I think it’s safe to say we’re addicted.
My word for the month was definitely discipline. God has really been convicting me the last few months about not reading the Bible like I should. So, this month I made a new reading plan: read the Bible in 100 days. The goal is to read 12 chapters a day. So far, so good!
