1. We were far more blessed than we deserved. We had beds, showers, running water, electricity, a swimming pool, bounce houses, a rock climbing wall, pool tables, and lots of other games to play with the kids.

         
     

  2. I got to practice the art of the squatty potty.


     

  3. We were walking distance from two grocery stores, two restaurants (Wi-Fi), and town.
     
  4. Hammock nation was founded.


     

  5. Loving the children was hard. It was obvious several times that they weren’t saying very nice things about us, but we loved them anyway.
     

  6. We were with our entire squad. I formed friendships that literally fell right into place, and they will last a lifetime. Mark my words.


     

  7. We were served a loaf of bread at every meal. Every. Meal.
     
  8. I became a coffee drinker. It didn’t take long.


     

  9. Weddings are a big deal in Albania, and the entire town heard when there was one. It wasn’t uncommon to hear several gunshots in the middle of the night. No big deal.
     
  10. The water tasted fluffy, but it was clean and drinkable. Hallelujah.
     
  11. Chains were broken. People started walking in freedom, including myself. The feeling of shame was released.
