Despite a few chilly days a couple weeks ago, it has turned out to be another typical Alabama Winter. It was about 75 degress out today, warm enough to turn on the AC in my car. It hasn’t snowed here in a few years. It’s always fun to experience snow here. At one inch, all the schools shut down and weather reports say it’s just not safe to be on the road. Several years ago we had a “blizzard” that produced somewhere around five to seven inches. Some thought we were done for.

When we get into an environment that is new to us, we tend to take extra precautions just to be on the safe side. As I look forward to this coming year, I forsee lots of new environments that will be new to us. How will we react? Will we go into conservation mode, and be as safe as possible, or will we take that leap of faith and live a life to the fullest?

This summer I had my first experience with a rope swing on the lake I where I was living. You have to grab the rope, step up onto the platform,  give a jump, lift your feet, and off you go. At some point you have to let go and take the plunge into the water. If you don’t let go, then you swing back and crash against either the bank, or a huge tree, resulting in broken bones and hurt pride.

Our course is set for the race: we’re up on the platform, in two weeks we’re gonna take the jump and lift our feet. Then we have to make the decision of letting go and plunging into the unkown, or holding on to what is “safe” and crashing against the rocks. What will you do? Peace.
