Working in a coffee shop, I see many different faces everyday. Some come in, buy a cup of coffee, and walk out of my memory forever. Some, however, come so often that I begin to recognize them. I usually remember them by their characteristics. Mocha mint boy, double espresso guy, no-sugar skinny caramel ice rage with whip cream lady.
Occasionally, some of these people cross over the threshold of aquaintance, to the realm of friendship. Shelley, Lee, Alisson, Chip, and more. I am never sorry for this crossing over. Sometimes it only takes one question to go from having a stranger in front of you, to someone who matters. Like Crystal, aspiring to be Miss Auburn University, but looking to a future as a pediatrician in a rural area where the need is the most. We often only see the surface of people, when that’s not even the interesting part. It doesn’t take much, just take a little time to ask somebody about themselves. Even if you don’t care about them before you do, you very well might afterwards. Peace.
