The sky today was extremely overcast. The clouds built during the entire day, so that by late afternoon, it was hard to tell if it was getting dark because of the setting of the sun or because of the ominous clouds. Maybe I read too many books and find too many similarities between the natural world and our emotions, but it seems to me to represent Satan’s attitude. There is a storm brewing.

He is not happy with the current situation because he knows that both our lives, and the lives of those we meet will be changed this year. We will be on the attack this year reaching out into the darkness to shine light and peace and love. It is wild to think of the ways that we expect to be used and the fact that we will be used in ways that seem so distant or unlikely. My weaknesses are to God, opportunities and may I view those as similar reminders that God’s graceful work in me is being completed. I have always heard the inspiring quote, “Difficulties are opportunities in work clothes,” and I think that it is true. Ultimately our perspective on the things that happen in our life will change us or keep us trapped where we are.

So I look at the upcoming storm and pray that God will use us in the darkness to break out light for all. Have you ever seen the sunrise after a long and trying night? It is magnificent, breathtaking in the contrast that occurs between the richness of the light and the deafening blackness of the night. I have spent a few nights camping before and I have to be honest- I am not very good (I will have to learn on this trip). I usually sleep very little and can’t wait for the morning. But no matter how frustrating it is, I know that morning will come soon. And so I hope. And it is that hope that smiles when you cannot. But some have not found that hope. Darkness is reality and they are resigned to a life without color, without hope.

Father God, I pray that there will be thousands that are released from the strongholds of the Evil One. May the light of your Son break forth over this earth with power and strength and with your calling of love may they find the hope that transforms and renews. Your calling of grace is amazing; Lord Jesus, and I hear it daily. “It is finished!” He was speaking not only of His action in our salvation, but also of condition in darkness. It is done. He has conquered and we are released. Praise be to God!

John 8:12 – “Then Jesus spoke to them again: ‘I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.’”
