I am.
I’m that guy who gets irritated with people that drive around for 10 minutes looking/waiting for a good parking spot instead of just parking and walking a little bit.
I’m that guy who you have to ask “what do you like?” before inviting me for dinner because I’m so picky (no mayo, no ketchup, no avocados, i’m allergic to chocolate, no sauces, no butter, no bananas).
I’m that guy who listens to the same song on a CD, eats the same kind of cereal for years, wears the same jeans, and picks the same restaurant for my birthday, over and over and over again.
I’m that guy who keeps walking even when his dog is trying to go to the bathroom.
Before you cast judgmental cyber stones at me for that last one, please remember that in many ways, you’re that guy/gal too. Everyone is that guy/gal. Even Jesus was that guy.
Now the bible doesn’t tell us if Jesus was that guy who rode around on his donkey until the “perfect spot closest to the door” opened up, or if he liked sauces on his food.
We can’t confirm any of those things because the Bible doesn’t say.
However, this is what we do know from the Bible.
We know that when people looked at him, one of the things they said was “there’s that guy who loves sinners and tax collectors.”
Yea, when it came to hanging out with the wrong crowd, Jesus was definitely ‘that guy’. That was his reputation.
And the crazy thing about it was he didn’t waltz into town and go “hey I’m that guy you’ve been waiting for. I’m that guy who is a friend to everyone people don’t want to be friends with.”
No. He just did it. He went where no one else would go and people looked at him and said “there’s that guy“.
I hope people someday call me that guy in the same way. I want people to see me as that guy… who loves to be with those who are nothing like me, not because I say it but because I do it.
I also want to be that guy who loved Jesus. I wanna live in such a way that when people see me, before they ask me about living out of a bookbag for a year, not taking showers for days at a time, or say anything about this crazy journey I’ve been on, I want them to go “there’s that guy who loves Jesus.”
Yes I want that! What about you?
How would you finish this statement…
I want to be that guy or gal who _______.
On a lighter note, I know we all have quirks, what are some ‘non spiritual’ ways that you are naturally that guy or that girl?
p.s. Just for clarification…I don’t keep walking when my dog is going to the bathroom. Promise! But if you laughed at that line, it’s probably because you do it, so I’m going to pray for you.
