Confessions of blogger that lost his…"Really!? He did that?"

Kid: Why are you sitting at this table by yourself? Do you have friends?

Jamal: I am talking to people about my trip around the world (thinking: Dag, do I look that lonely!? lol)

Kid: Where are you going?

Jamal: I'm going to A LOT of different countries and I'm going to tell people about Jesus and how great He is.

Kid: Yeah. How good?(Confused and thinking "Is he really asking me about Jesus? How do I make this simple to a 10 yr old?"

Jamal: Jesus is so good that in John 5, He tells a man that couldn't walk for 38 years to walk and the man actually gets up and starts to walk as soon as Jesus said it.

Kid: Reaaaally!? (mouth open and staring into my eyes) He does that a lot?

Jamal: He does…and He can.

Kid: I'm going to tell my mom (as he runs away and takes the liberty to grab a world race bracelet I was selling for free – hahaha).

This is a conversation that took place between a 10 year-old boy and myself this past Thursday at a Chick-Fil-A Spirit Night fundraiser.

This conversation may have seemed "too simple" and may not have meant anything to anyone listening to the conversation but it meant a lot to me.

If you know anything about me, you know I like simplicity. And this conversation put a smile on my face.

In fact, the more I think about the conversation, the more inspired I am.

Did you see what happened?

I told him a story from the Bible and didn't have to hype it up. I didn't have to add praise and worship music. I made it so simple that a 10 year-old boy understood the story.

It was something to watch his eyes light up as he said "Really!? He does that a lot?"

He was in awe. He was in awe of Jesus.

It made me think…when was the last time I was in awe like the 10 year-old boy?

Imagine if every page of the bible jumped out at you like that? Imagine if the next time you opened up the Bible to read, you said "Really!? He did that?"

My prayer: Jesus, please help us see your word and these familiar stories the way the 10 year-old boy from Chick-Fil-A saw the story. Help us be in awe by your awesomeness!!

Why do you think it's difficult (and/or rare) for us to have those "wow" moments when we read or hear AMAZING stories from the bible?

What was the last verse or biblical story that made you go "wow"?
