But I am good at telling jokes. Here’s one…

A horse walks into a bar…

The bartender says “why the long face?”

wait for it…wait for it…

still waiting…

Long face… a horse has a…(lowering my hand from my face to mid-chest)…

Ok, I’m gonna work on that one a little more…uhhh…

But, speaking of horses…if you know anything about me, you know that I love horses. But there’s one specific type of horse that fascinates me.

Arabian horses

Arabian horses are used for the most important service tasks. They have to be smart and strong. But even more important, they must have self-discipline. They are trained from the time they are a few months old to report to their master when they hear their master’s whistle.

As a final test to see if they have learned to obey, these horses are put in a corral without water for a long period of time. The horses’ tongues become swollen from thirst and they do everything but jump the fence to get to the water.

When the gate to the corral is finally opened, the horses sprint for the nearby pool of clear, crisp, figi tasting, this is about to be so good, I can’t run fast enough, cold water. Have you ever been so thirsty that you drink some water, look at the cup, nod your head, raise your eyebrows, and say “man, that’s some good water.”

Yeah…that kind of water!

(a horse makin’ a break for that Figi water!!)

But just as the horses are about to reach the water, the master blows the whistle.

1) Some horses pay no attention to the master’s whistle.
2) Others take a quick drink and then go to the master.
3) But some immediately turn and go to the master, no matter how much they are suffering from thirst.

The horses in #3 are accepted for the most important tasks. The others are used in less important work…you know, the work that no one wants to do.

These horses are trained for a special purpose. They must come immeditely without delay. Their master’s life may depend upon their unquestioning obdience.

Our Heavenly Father has a special purpose for each one of us. But if we do not learn to be obdient, He will not be able to use us for that special purpose.

One time I heard someone say, God gives us tests and if you dont learn the lesson the first time, He’ll give you a make-up tests to see if you learn the lesson the second time. The third time. The fourth time. And so on.

Sometimes we may not understand why things are happening in our lives, but we should learn to obey without question. If we learn to obey, we will fulfill our special purpose and be given greater opportunities to serve.

Are you doing work that no one wants to do? Are you a good test-taker? Do you have it all under control like me? How is that working for you? Why do you think it’s so hard for us to give up control?
