Over the past couple of weeks…
I have heard many unfortunate stories of parents losing their children, some young, some old, and some not even born yet. And while I’ve heard stories like these before, they have never affected me so much than in the past few weeks.
I’ve had a couple of conversations with a few of my friends on tour and we began to talk about what it must feel like to have lost a child. We know that at our age and our stage of life, we have NO IDEA what the degree of love must be like for someone that is of your own flesh and blood.
So as we continued to talk about this, it ended up coming around full circle to the message of the Gospel and it began to give me a fresh, new outlook on what the message of the Gospel is.
If you don’t know what the Gospel is, let me share with you just exactly what that means. Basically, the Gospel is the good news about what Jesus Christ has done for us. He came from heaven to earth and lived as a human being for 33 years and taught people about His Father in heaven. Then one day He was betrayed by one of His closest friends (one of the disciples) and was then brutally beaten and hung on a cross and died the most painful death you could ever imagine.
Now this is a story that some of us may have heard countless times right??
But what has really affected me more recently is the fact that God lost His one and only Son. Something that I’m sure He treasured and loved beyond our wildest imagination.
But the craziest part about that is He didn’t just “lose” His Son, He purposely gave His one and only Son.
The bible says in Acts 2:23, “But God knew what would happen, and His prearranged plan was carried out when Jesus was betrayed. With the help of lawless Gentiles, you nailed Him to a cross and killed Him.”
God knew, and PLANNED out the death of His Son?! WHY??
All because He loved you and He loved me and so that He could wash away all of our sins and give us eternal life with Him in Heaven.
So this brings me back to thinking about what my love for my future child might be like. A love that will probably go beyond any kind of love I have had for anyone up to this point and then I’m reminded that this same love (and infinitely more) is what I receive from my heavenly Dad!
“Nothing you’ve done is so repulsive that God can’t redeem your potential and LOVE you through it!”
