"HE must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30
This verse has been at the forefront of my mind for quite some time, and doesn't it just punch a hole right through your chest (figuratively speaking of course). I mean this is coming from John the Baptist, the guy who was there preparing the way for Jesus. The guy who spent his time telling people that Jesus was real and He was coming! And then when Jesus shows up, instead of trying to get some of the glory for Himself, to maybe soak up a little bit of the limelight for himself. He says that phrase that punches a hole right through my chest (again, figuratively),
HE must increase, but I must decrease.
Why aren't we all a little more like John, willing to just step aside and out of the spotlight. And letting Jesus have all the glory that He deserves. At times I catch myself thinking about the journey I'll be making for that specific reason, to show Jesus to the world. But is that really what I want to do, or do I want to show everyone just how great I am and have everyone look at me and say, wow he's such a great guy. The truth is at times I do think like that, and everytime I do the words of John the Baptist come back to me.
HE must increase, but I must decrease.
I don't want the spotlight, or the glory. I want Jesus and Him alone to be the purpose for my life and my joy. And everyday in my walk with God, I'm learning how a little bit at a time. 🙂
HE must increase, but I must decrease.
