It’s been a long time coming but the day of our departure is fast approaching. A group of almost 50 kids with a passion and confidence like I’ve never seen are about to be set loose in Guatemala, Malaysia, and Botswana to not only change the hearts of many, but also to testify that the Good Lord has free reign in their lives. Surrendering the comforts of home, and leaving the ones we love behind for a season will be difficult for all of us, but the work that the Lord will be able to do through us as a result will be more than worth it.
Starting September 6th, my team of 7 will be staying in Antigua, Guatemala doing various ministries throughout the city, primarily with high school aged students who struggle daily with abuse, the risks of slavery, and general poverty. We are going as vessels for the Lord to work through us, not as a bunch of heroic white kids who think they have something to offer. Our goal is to serve people in Christ’s name, who offers new life, hope, grace, and matchless love. Just as Paul says in 1 Corinthians 13: “if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.”
This blog will probably be updated weekly to give you the low-down on what’s happening over the next 9 months. For those of you that made donations to help send me on this trip, I can’t thank you enough! If these posts aren’t detailed enough for you and you would like more information about what’s going on from now until June please shoot me a message on Facebook or look into some of my teammates’ blog posts if you’d like.
If you’re looking for something to pray about, the team and I would appreciate prayer for unity and endurance going from barely knowing each other to living nut to butt for 3 months, learning a new language, having little to no access to cheeseburgers, etc.
As for myself personally, I would appreciate prayer for strength over the next few weeks as I prepare to let go of loved ones for a short time, and wisdom to prepare myself for the coming change. Thanks for your interest, and God bless you!
Thanks,
Jake
