A Haitian nation, that is! 😀
I have fallen in love with Haiti. Every thing about it is captivating, the land and the people draw you into a new depth of life. I can’t put my finger on it, but just being here stirs the heart like no other place in the world.
Our ministry contact this month is Mission Of Hope, a beautiful organization filled with beautiful people. Their mission statement says it all:
As an organization following Jesus Christ, Mission of Hope exists to bring life transformation to every man, woman, and child in Haiti. We desire to serve the nation of Haiti, and see lives changed.
Our ministry was varied each day, except for the week we spent up in a mountain village called Turpin for VBS. We have been apart of a multitude of projects they have going on, from village evangelizing and physical labor to playing with orphans. It has been a great month of ministry and to top it off it’s all squad month. Meaning this month is spent with all the beautiful faces I launched with in America.
It has been a month of bonding and growing. I’ve never experienced sisterhood like this kind. I’ve made life long friends, and I mean friendships I have never dreamt of. Community living is raw, everything is out on the table but everyone accepts you no matter what you put out there. Everything has a chance to be drawn into the light. People are constantly speaking truth into your life and to be honest, life is beautiful when everyone around you is calling you up. IT’S FREEDOM MY FRIENDS!
The men on my squad are like none I have ever met, these brothers of mine are such wonderful men of God. They speak life. They serve and honor us women in the most beautiful ways.
We had a Haitian prom to redeem unpleasant memories of high school for those who had horrible prom related experiences, and also just for fun. Each guy asked three of us girls and even thought up cute creative ways to ask. The days approaching WR prom were full of surprises and tremendous joy. Everyone dressed crazy, and some even wore sheets. All in all, we danced like a bunch of weirdos and it was great fun.
Later on the men had a surprise for us ladies. Indeed, was it a surprise. Each one of our guys washed his prom dates feet. My date was Darron, along with Brittany and Alyssa. He prayed with each one of us individually before washing our feet. It was such a beautiful moment, it took me to the heart of Jesus when he washed his disciple’s feet. I even began weeping while my feet were being washed by my sweet brother.
I can’t put all the wonderful things happening in Haiti into words much less a blog. But I will say it was a month of unity, growth, relational discipleship, redemption, and FREEDOM.
