We are now currently in Talanga, Honduras and a week into serving with our new ministry. This post is long overdue, but before blogging about Honduras I wanted to share a little bit more about our time in Puerto Barrios, Guatemala.

Guatemala was amazing. I truly enjoyed every ministry that we were able to get involved with last month.

Looking back, one of my favorite ministries was at the dump.

At this particular dump here in Puerto Barrios, we were able to visit the families that live and work here. For these families, sorting trash is their source of income. Every Thursday, we would bring lunch to the families here and spend time playing games and singing songs with the kids. The kids love piggy back rides and are always asking you to run around with them on your backJ

In addition to our Thursday visits, we were able to spend one full day at the dump actually helping out the families and getting a glimpse into their daily lives. My team helped go through huge piles of trash and put them into the different categories they needed to be sorted into. One boy, Jaime, who is only 14 and already the head of his household, showed us how everything needed to be sorted. He worked quickly and efficiently, clearly displaying years of experience in doing this.

Like Jaime, the kids that live here grow up literally in the trash. Most kids do not attend school because they are needed to work in order to help support their family. While the kids here have so much joy despite having so little, it breaks my heart that they do not have the opportunity to go to school and break free from this life that they have been born into.

If you could, please pray for the families that live here, that they would have what they need, and that these kids would have the opportunity to attend school one day.

Hope to have an update on Honduras coming soon!
