The last week of my life has felt a bit like a broken record. Pack, repack, then unpack my stuff and pack it again. It’s been quite a process. In case you somehow missed what all the fuss is about, I am going around the world for the next 11 months and as you can imagine trying to pack your life into a bag for the next year is quite difficult. I basically resorted to taking everything out of my pack determined that something had to go. As I stared at all of the various items that I thought to be important, I realized something, little things in themselves don’t weigh a lot, but together they make up quite a load. As I selected things that wouldn’t make it into my bag for my upcoming journey, I realized all of the little things I had taken out of my bag weren’t so little when they were added together. This made me think of all the things in my life that I think do not matter because I consider them little things. However, in reality these things are truly significant. I am reminded of the apostle Paul’s word when he stated,

“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”

The reality is that little things matter. What we think to be insignificant are truly significant things. So the next time you go to make a decision and think that it is not a big deal, just ask yourself if you are lightening your load or adding another pound to your pack.
