For the past couple months I’ve been working in what can best be described as the mobilization department. When people send an email to the World Race through our website or begin the application process without finishing their application, they get an email from me (or Rusty Jackson) that same day. Then they get a phone call the next day.
We realize this thing can be a bit scary. We want to talk to as many people as possible, share the heart of what we’re doing and let them know that the World Race is legit.
As I’ve spoken to countless WR candidates I’ve had to articulate over and over what exactly it takes to do the World Race. So I give to you: THE IDEAL WORLD RACE CANDIDATE.
THE IDEAL WORLD RACE CANDIDATE IS READY FOR GOD TO SHOW UP.
The World Race is a Christian missions trip. It’s good if you’re a Christian. We are expecting that God will be a part of the process and that He will do a work in your heart over the year. The IDEAL CANDIDATE will believe that God works today and is ready for Him to do so in his/her life.
THE IDEAL WORLD RACE CANDIDATE IS READY TO LIVE IN COMMUNITY.
On the World Race you will live and work with a team of roughly seven people 24 hours a day. You will share your heart with one another and give each other feedback. It’s called community and it’s a big buzzword in the Church these days. The IDEAL CANDIDATE will experiment with community and figure out how it works in his/her life.
THE IDEAL WORLD RACE CANDIDATE IS READY TO CHANGE.
Visiting 11 countries in 11 months, seeing the different cultures, not having a home, and doing it all in community is going to change you. The IDEAL CANDIDATE will know that we are all on a journey of being formed into greater Christ-likeness.
THE IDEAL WORLD RACE CANDIDATE IS READY TO DEAL WITH ‘JUNK’.
Call it ‘baggage’. Call it ‘junk’. Call it ‘past wounds and hurts’. The weight of a sinful world has taken a toll on all of us. The effects that has had on your life will surface on the World Race. You will have the environments and tools to sort through it all safely, but nobody can force you to do it. The IDEAL CANDIDATE will do the work to walk out of the darkness that reigns in his/her life.
THE IDEAL WORLD RACE CANDIDATE IS READY TO BE POSITIVE.
This thing isn’t always easy. Attempts at community don’t always work. Plans change. Feelings get hurt. Even when it gets tough, the IDEAL CANDIDATE will hope against hope and believe the best for every situation.
So this isn’t real complicated. It’s not a competitive process. You don’t need to beat out the “next guy” or the “next girl”. We simply want to be sure the World Race will be a healthy and growthful experience for you and for the people around you.
