The other day my sister and I were riding home from baptism class at church. We were chatting about our walk with the Lord, how our quiet times are going, and what God was teaching us. My sweet little sister then said “I miss you because you talk to me about this stuff”. Then a voice came from my mouth and said “Would you like me to be your accountability partner? We can meet once a week just the two of us and talk about what is going on in our lives and make sure we are both in the word and listening to God’s voice.” She was thrilled and I was immediately terrified. I went home that night after I dropped her off and prayed. “God, am I qualified for this? I haven’t been a Christian that long and you want me to try to point my little sister back to you? I am still getting the hang of this stuff myself. If I feel unable to do this how am I going to do the world race? Why did you call me to do these things? I am just not qualified!”
God responded very quietly; I am always amazed at his patience with me. He said “I am more than able. I am more than enough. I am what qualifies you, trust me” It clicked with me. Because my identity is now rooted in Christ I have the credentials and the responsibility to both make new disciples and walk with other believers in fellowship and accountability. By God’s grace I have been found in Christ and because of that my life should constantly reflect and point back to him. In our own flesh we are weak but in Christ we are more than conquerors!(Romans 8:37)
When God picked me up out of the darkest pits of sin he gave me a new life and a new heart to do his will. As daunting as that task may seem at times he does not leave us on our own to do this. Not only did he give us the Holy Spirit, a part of the trinity, to guide and direct us but he gave us each other. We are supposed to pray for one another and encourage each other in Christ. “But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness” (Hebrews 3:13).
With this in mind let me encourage you to seek the will of God and not be worried about your ability to do the work. In reality it is the Holy Spirit working through you. He is all you need to be qualified to do his work. Be brave and do what God has placed on your heart. Talk to your coworker about Jesus, become an accountability partner, apply to go on The World Race, or give in faith and pray for others who are going.
