Age ain’t nothing but a number. Yes, it is a number. But it has always been something that haunts me. When you’re a child you dream of the way your life will look when you get older. And like every child I had this dream too. At 24/25 I’d be married with a successful business and maybe a child. I’m 32 and I never pictured me here–in Madagascar, at that.
I struggled when God put the World Race on my heart because of my age. So when I got to training camp and learned that I would be the oldest racer on my squad, a part of me wanted to call it quits. But I knew I couldn’t run away that quickly. Traveling the world was at stake. Now here I am and my age isn’t even a factor.
When we arrived here in Madagascar, I wanted the 80s babies to get together. Yes, I am the oldest here but there are more 80s babies than I thought! So we went on an adventure together. It was great! This is when I learned I am right where God wants me. He knew I would be here to experience the world He created, to witness His beautiful masterpieces in the form of nature and people.
So about the 80s babies adventure – we were excited to get off the compound. We wanted to maybe go to a restaurant or something. We started out by walking, then we ended up taking public transportation, which was an adventure in itself. We got dropped off at the city center and walked a bit. Then we went to the ATM and after that, went to a gas station because on Sunday everything closes early. So when we got there, we were excited to get snacks! (It’s the little things these days.) I got a magnum bar! Yummy! I was kind of bummed that we only went to the gas station but it was meant to be.
Right before we were about to leave Kara gave a little boy a bag of snacks. It was so beautiful. Then we prayed over him and his life. And it didn’t stop there! CJ gave him his Sprite, Kacey washed his feet and gave him water.
Homelessness here is real. And my heart breaks when I see it, especially when it involves children. Our adventure turned out to be a blessing even if it was at a gas station.
