The other day, I was giving advice to a teammate who was deciding on whether she should post a blog or not.
It's got some pretty provocative content that she knew once she posted, she'd have the whole world to answer for. And by provocative, I mean it's got rawness in it that will provoke the audience, risk alot for the writer to put it all out there, and shake the boat a little bit.
My advice to her was:
"If you are not writing something which risks everything, you are not writing anything."
After telling her that, I thought about my own writing and blogs of the past. So I haven't been taking my own advice in this at all. Let me confess by saying that I have been too safe in my blog writing.
I want to start writing something dangerous, as Jeff Goin says in his writing article here:
"
Stop being safe
We’re all in desperate need of courageous, dangerous writing — work that inspires and moves and resonates. Writing that challenges us to step outside of ourselves and move beyond the status quo.
When your art comes from some place deep and true, people take notice of that sort of thing. So start digging.
"
So here goes writing provocatively moving forward, stay tuned and put on your seat belts.
