I'm Jackie Gu, and I'm from San Francisco, California. I've been a Christian since I was barely a teenager and I grew up reading books on Amy Carmichael, Gladys Aylward and Elisabeth Elliot, strong and mighty women with independent and adventurous spirits who had God-sized stories. A God experience in April of 2012 led me to the World Race.

I am a world traveler, lover of God and people, an aspiring writer, photographer, and an all around fun-loving woman with an affection for the unknown.

I'm excited to let you in on my impressions of God's love for the world through my 11 months of travels in 11 precious and diverse cultures. 

It's my continued prayer that God will use me in my upcoming journey to tell a story of hope, redemption, and His love for the world. 

10 Fun Facts About Me

  1.  I have been to 2 of the 11 countries on this Race. (Thailand & Cambodia)
     
  2.  My purpose in life is to "Explore, Discover, and Inspire Beauty".
     
  3. My favorite animal is the penguin. Seeing a fake or real penguin will make me happy instantly.
     
  4. I used to live in Alaska. (There were NO penguins there)
     
  5. Mandarin Chinese is my 1st language, if I get tired I'll speak English with an accent.
     
  6. Exotic foods I've devoured while traveling: dog (China), duck embryo (Vietnam), and horse (Montreal).
     
  7. I gave myself the name "Jacqueline" after moving to the US after seeing a photo of Mrs. Jacqueline Kennedy.
     
  8. I was raised in a Christian home in Beijing, and grew up listening to Bible stories told by my grandma. I especially enjoyed Samson's story (maybe the rebel in me liked it?)
     
  9. My favorite dish is Kungpao Chicken made by my mom. I will miss it and all her cooking during my race.
     
  10. If time/money is not a limit I've always wanted to be a "missionary" or a "travel writer". (I think this year I'll be living the dream!)
