Anderson Righa Kongoda
What is your testimony?
“I’m from the coast province of Kenya. I grew up in Voi town and went to primary school there. I finished secondary school at the coast, Mombasa. When I joined secondary school, I got saved, but I wasn’t serious. Immediately, I finished high school and I got into worldly stuff. I moved to Nairobi and moved in with my brother-in-law and sister. I worked at the movie rental shop and cyber cafe owned by my brother. I used my cash for spending. I never used to go to church. Instead I went clubbing, wild parties, drinking, crazy stuff. I wasn’t serious about life. At this time, my friends and family had their life going very well. I didn’t go to college; I was doing stupid stuff. I thought I was on the top of the world. Then on December 15, 2009, my brother and sister-in-law asked me about my life and how I was living and warned me that it wasn’t going well. They asked me to try Jesus and see what happens. That is when I recommitted my life to Christ and they prayed for me. They asked me to join their church, but they live far from me. A couple days later, I passed through the market and saw Deliverance Church Southlands (DCS). The following Sunday I joined DCS. From there on, life has never been the same. Immediately, after I got saved and went to church, I started reading the Bible and being serious about God.”
When did you become passionate about cooking?
“Before I recommitted my life to Christ, I had a passion for cooking. I really wanted to go to college, but there were not any funds. Since I was saved, favor started coming my way. So I got a scholarship from my family. I went to college. While I was there, I kept on trusting the Lord for more funds to pay my fees, bus fares, and needs. God is so faithful. I finished college with all my bills paid. Then, before I finished college, I got an internship from one of the best hotels, The Stanley Hotel, in Nairobi, Kenya. Immediately, I got an opportunity to show my skills at the pastor’s house. All through, God has been faithful to take me through challenges and temptations. I have overcome them through the power in Christ. I am very thankful, and I hope for the best.”
How in the world did Anderson, a 5 star chef, end up serving the World Race Team Pneuma for 5 weeks?
“This spring I was offered a job to cook for ambassadors and other political figures. During the same time, Pastor Joseph offered me the opportunity to cook for the World Race team during the month of May. I felt that I was supposed to serve the missions team and trust the Lord with my future. If the Lord wants me to have the job, then it will still be available at the end of the month.”
