The last week in India was really good! On one of the days we took the kids to a beach. It was a really fun day!
The kids seemed to love just even the car ride because they were in a new area. They loved going into the water at the beach.
This last week some of the parents came to India for “Parents Week”. My parents didn’t come, but they aren’t really travelers, and it was a lot of money to come. It was a really exciting week though for the Racers who had parents come- they got to reunite and do ministry with them.
It sounded like the week was just incredible for them-that God moved a lot and did a lot of healing and strengthening. Three of my teammates had parents come, so they left for a different city, so it was just myself and 2 other teammates for about 4 or 5 days. It was nice to have a pretty “chill” week with just us and have just a little more freedom to do things. One of my teammates and I went to a nearby area of migrant workers in tents to hang out and maybe share Jesus with them. We handed out some candy and balloons to the kids, but no one really spoke English. We were saying Jesus’ name in Telegu though. This little girl showed me her boo-boo, and I prayed for it. Then, we walked passed a church, so we went in and talked with and prayed for the pastor there. Then, we walked by “tent city” again, and I had some rice/curry to hand out, and this elderly man walked up to us and so we gave him the rice/curry for him and his family. On Sunday, I went to an Indian church service. I went with one of the foster moms here and some of the boys at the home. It was really neat- all the women were wearing their scarves over their heads, so I did the same- mine kept falling down though- I think the women pin theirs or just know how to wear it haha. They worshiped with song, had someone read from the Bible in Telegu, and had a sermon. They didn't have chairs, but just sat on the floor. We left early with the boys. One night, we had a game night with just my 2 teammates and I, and it was really fun. I also led a worship night for the foster moms and my team one night. I thought that it was a blessing because the girls prayed for my back because it had been hurting and we had an overnight bus ride the next night, and then right after one of the women reminded me that she was a physical therapist, so she gave me some more suggestions and exercises. Another thing that was a blessing was that my computer stopped working because something broke on it, so I thought it was shot, but I was praying about it, and it started working again! Seriously, I can’t believe my computer still works. It’s an old computer, and it’s had so many issues on the Race! I’m seriously so surprised that it’s still kickin’– I think it’s because I’ve been praying for it- it seems like that’s the only way that it’s still working right now. I’m going to miss the boys that we worked with!
Especially the one that we called “Swings”. He would always smile
and try to climb up on me. I’m going to be praying for long-term, Indian foster moms and for adoption for the boys with special needs there- you can do the same!
On our final days, one of my teammates was going to the Taj Majal, so my other teammate and I spent 2 nights at one of the homes in Hyderabad. I would’ve loved to go to the Taj Majal, but it costed like $200 bucks to go because we were in southern India, and the Taj Majal is in the northern part. I was just stressed out and in a bad mood those last few days. I know I have nothing to complain about though. I was just frustrated because we were put in an open floor where lots of people walked by and the house just echoed and was really loud and there wasn’t much privacy, and I just didn’t feel very welcomed.
I think if I would’ve put up my tent, I would’ve been a bit more comfortable, so it was partly my own fault. And there was tons of mosquitoes and it was hot and people were just annoying me and the power kept going out and the last day there was no water or breakfast. I was also frustrated because money got jumbled up with the money that we use. Besides that, it was really fun because my teammate and some others went to a Hard Rock Café in Hyderabad, and it was so yummy! They had beef there too which was a treat for us because India doesn’t eat beef, but I think since it’s an American restaurant that they have their menu. Then, after that we went to this ancient fort/palace with the Englishman that we were working with named Dave, and it was so fun! I loved it! I think I enjoyed it more than Angkor Wat that we went to in Cambodia. It was really majestic and there were a lot of stone paths and buildings and when you walk up you can see the whole city. We also had a tour guide which was great, and we didn’t have a tour guide at Angkor Wat. For our last night in India, we stay at the airport lodge with the whole squad. It was nice to catch up with people, but I was still in a bad mood, and we slept in this huge room with everyone including the boys, so there wasn’t really any privacy. I really enjoyed India though, I really didn’t enjoy the chaotic-ness and lots of garbage-ness of India, but I feel really blessed to have worked with the boys with special needs and to have seen the Indian culture! I’m in Nepal now, and a new leaf has turned, and my bad mood was removed once we got here! See next blog!
