It’s about a mile walk from Union Station to the Fred Jordan Mission.

Fred Jordan Mission Downtown Los Angeles

The Fred Jordan Mission is located in the skid row area of Los Angeles, the skid row area is where thousands of homeless people live in downtown LA. (see previous blog about skid row)

The mission was established in 1944 by Fred and Willie Jordan. The mission building has a chapel, kitchen, Food bank, storage for donations (clothing, blankets, hygiene items, etc) and Center for Evangelism and Outreach.

The missions main ministry is to share the gospel to invite people to chapel and serve people food from their kitchen area.

When I was at the mission I was able to meet a Mennonite group composed of people from all over the USA and Canada. The group comes to Los Angeles two times a year stays at a motel and rotates between ministries in Southern California they helped with two chapel services and two meal services, and moving/ sorting toys for the Christmas Toy Drive.

The Fred Jordan mission regularly partners with individuals and groups for prayer, volunteering, and support…

Below is a link of ways you can help:

They also recently opened up a center for evangelism and outreach, to partner with churches / groups for short term trips:

For me, my first memory of helping the homeless was in high school when my rotary club helped at Fred Jordan’s thanksgiving outreach. That experience opened my eyes to the fact that you don’t have to travel to some distant place to share Gods love…there are opportunities all around you near and far away.

Everyone is on a Journey, everyone has a story, everyone can do something to help others…

Where is your Journey taking you? What is your Story? What is something you can do to help others?
