I’ve been I Cuenca for a full month now and it feels like it going by so fast. The things we do here from outreaches to schools in the mountains to telling people about why we are here in Cuenca and about the gospel on a Christian television station is all amazing. And there is so much more to do here in the next upcoming month. God has shown me so much through the people here. With playing with the kids at the school and the Young Life here. Coming to Ecuador at the beginning of the race one of my biggest fears for some reason was not being able to communicate to the people here.
It’s probably a common fear too, considering most of my squad doesn’t know Spanish. When I actually got on to our ministry sites the kids didn’t care! For example, back in Quito, when we were doing ministry at Ramar and we played with the children, we didn’t speak the same language at all and yet we still had a ton of fun. In fact playing with the kids was my favorite part of our ministry in Quito and it’s the same here! The kids we are hanging out with are a little older than the kids at Ramar and know a little of broken English, but almost still the same scenario if not more fun. Throughout these 2 months I have learned a little Spanish and continue learning. Some of the teens are helping me with that. But my main point (if I didn’t make any sense) is that God has been proving to me multiple times that I don’t need to worry about those things and that if I just love the kids by playing, helping, and even inviting some of the teens to have dinner with us. I can have faith that God will help.
Now going into the 2nd month I hope that I can start building relationships with the kids here and start to preach/ minister to them more. The guys and I also recently got invited to go and play basketball with some men that just like to meet up and play basketball Saturday mornings. They range from 20’s – 40’s and I remember now why I didn’t play basketball in high school. I’m hoping and praying that during the few weeks we’ll be able to connect with a few of them as well and be able to either bring or invite them to the Church.
That’s all for now! Thank you to everyone for supporting me and helping me get closer and closer to my goal! We are almost there!! I’ll do my best to post another blog as soon as I can! If you have any questions feel free to comment and I’ll get to them as soon as I can! So until next time!
