This blog is going to help explain the power and significance of adoption. You see, when Jesus died on the cross he paid the full price for our adoption into His kingdom and signed the papers with His own blood. His love goes far above and beyond just making a way for us to get out of hell. Hell is a real place and if all God did when He sent his Son was save us from that fate, that would have been enough. But, Jesus took us to a whole new level when he came out of the grave. In the book of Romans Paul gives us a very clear picture of who we become when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Saviour. Romans 8:15 says “you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but the spirit of adoption by whom we cry Abba Father!”
This passage clearly states that we have received the “Spirit of adoption.” The rest of the
passage goes on to talk about all the things that make this adoption special and the gifts
that come with it. What is important to note is that Paul used the word adoption in the first
place. If you think about it, wouldn’t it make more sense to use the word children. But, he
didn’t and for good reason. The word adoption has a very significant meaning. In the time
that Paul was writing to the Romans there was a law that everyone understood. It said that,
if any father was ever offended by one of his sons that father had the right to disown his
son, strip him of all rights, title and privilege, and withhold all inheritance. However, if a
father adopted a son, the father was bound by the law to never disown that son, no matter
what he did.
That’s the promise God has made to us. He is telling those of us who trust in Him that He
will be our Father always. So for all of you who are wondering, that is what my tattoo
represents. It is the word Adoption written in Greek with Romans 8:15 just under. It is a
symbol commitment on my part to the relationship the God has made with me and an
outward expression of my love for Him.
Love you all and hope you are having a wonderful summer!
