Our diet on the race usually consists of bread, rice, more rice and noodles. But really, we eat a lot of carbs.
Most of us have had our spurts of working off all these carbs – Michelle used to go running (but then it got too hot), Emily and Melanie used to do cardio (but then we got too busy), and I had my workout spurt when we were forced to use squatty potties for three months (hey, it really burns your thighs, okay?)
Ever since we learned our return date, however, most of the girls on my squad have starting working out again (or for the first time – holla).
On my team, it started with Mel. She started doing the workout video called Insanity at the beginning of this month, and Emily joined her as an accountability partner. Pretty soon Anna tagged along, and it wasn’t long before I felt left out. So I started working out with them every night, and finally Michelle caved and joined us too.
I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Insanity or not, but let me tell you, it’s no Richard Simmons’ workout. I am proud of myself for even completing half of whatever Shaun-T tells me to do. “Dig deeper!” he’ll yell at me through the computer screen as I lay sprawled out on the floor. The reason why I allow myself to lie on the floor is because sometimes one of the exercisers in the background will give up, and since they have freakishly ripped bodies, I tell myself that if they can’t do it, then I sure as beep can’t do it. But then Emily told me that they are only pretending – that they are just being dramatic for sake of the video. That made me sad – I wish she hadn’t told me.
Here’s the thing. Shaun-T and his counterparts are doing Insanity inside an air conditioned gym. We are doing it outside in CAMBODIA. Sweat much? I don’t think I knew it was physically possible to sweat as much as I do during these workouts. When I talk about being sprawled out on the floor, it’s usually because I’m slipping and sliding everywhere due to the pools of sweat that have collected by my feet.
Whatever, I get a workout by standing up at the end.
