I’m in love…

Psalm 63:1-8
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. On my bed I will remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Because you are my help. I sing in the shadow of your wings. My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.

These are some of my favorite verses in the Bible. You have probably already figured it out. I’m in love with God and not a guy 🙂 Here is how the verses speak to me…

O God, you are MY God,
-There is something about saying “my“. I take pride in “my” family, “my” job, “my” education.  The word “my” is possesive so when I say “my” God I’m saying “I’m not ashamed to be associated with God and I want others to know it.”

earnestly I seek you;
-In the dictionary, earnestly means “showing deep sincerity or seriousness” and seek means “to try to locate or discover; search for.” The word seek is an action verb, but too many times Christians are passive. God pursues us and he wants us to pursue a relationship with him with all of our hearts.

my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
-Think about the last time that you were really thirsty and your body craved water and when you finally got it you guzzled it down. If you were in a dry and weary land how much more would you be desperate for water. When I’m dehydrated I get bad headaches. That’s how we should feel about God. Our body’s should crave more of God and we should stop at nothing until we get more of him.

You should be so desperate for God that you physically need him and nothing else can quinch your thirst. Sexual immoratlity, drunkedness, drugs, etc are like soda pop (coke). They taste good, but are bad for you and they leave you even more thirsty than when you started. They are temporary highs and won’t satisfy your soul.

I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory.
-Because we have a relationship with God one day we will see him face to face. I want to see God and not just in heaven, but here on Earth. When I see God heal people, mend broken hearts, and I look at the beautiful mountains and oceans I see God’s power.

****Because your love is better than life,
-This blows my mind…your love is BETTER THAN LIFE. I think about all the things that I love in life: my family, friends, traveling, doing missions, dancing, laughing, loving, clothes, etc. All the things I think of when I think of my life can’t even come close to comparing with God’s love. His love is BETTER than life itself. Wow! Do you really believe that? Many times we don’t act like it. I’m guilty of not spending enough time with God. I get caught up in life and put God on the shelf, but when you truly believe his love is better than what life has to offer; God will rock your world!

my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands.
-We need to remember to glorify God at all times. Through the years I’ve learned that I need to worship him by telling him how great he is, but also by the way I live. God is glorified when I love others, serve, give, say an encouraging word, and prefer others. When I do kind things in God’s name I’m representing him well and he gets the glory.

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.
-If you know me, you know I love to eat 🙂 I love food so I like this analogy. God is the only one who can satisfy our hunger (just like our thirst).

On my bed I will remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.
-I will REMEMBER you. So many times we forget God. Our day gets busy and we forget to talk to him all day, but he is constantly thinking about us.

Because you are my help. I sing in the shadow of your wings.
-God is always with us and will help us through this life into the next (heaven). Whenever I read the word wings I think of a mama hen. I heard somewhere that there was a fire in a chicken coop and the mama hen was burned to death, but they found her baby chicks under her wing safe from the flames. I feel like that with God. He is my Savior and sacrificed himself so that we might live.

My soul clings to you; your right hand upholds me.
-I like the word cling. When I think of cling I think of desperately holding on for dear life. When I was bungee jumping with Ricki, my teammate, I was clinging onto her for dear life. I was almost paralyzed in fear, but when we’re afraid we can cling to Jesus and he will not let go. He will jump off the edge with us whether the edge is moving to another country, quitting your job because God says to, selling all your belongings to give to the poor, forgiving someone who has hurt you, reaching out to a stranger, whatever surrendering your life to God looks like…God will jump off the edge into the unknown with you. If I had backed out because of fear I would have missed one of the best experiences and regreted it for the rest of my life. Cling to God, you are jumping tandum.

Who are you in love with???
