A village in the Si Saket province of Thailand-that’s where we are spending the month of May. The closest city is Kantharalak and we are told we are an hour drive from Cambodia and a two hour drive from Laos. We hope to visit both places during our time here. There are about 400 people in the village where we are staying and only a handful of Christians. The family hosting us is the only Christian household. They are gracious and generous and there is a sweet spirit in this house. The family sleeps outside while we sleep inside.
I’ve taken my first ever bucket shower. Honestly, I really didn’t even understand the concept of a bucket shower until now. We have chickens, cows and centipedes around the house and it’s very common to see a herd of water buffalo crossing the road. We are learning how to communicate without much language and we are quickly learning Thai for useful words like “delicious” and “sticky rice”.
We expect to be teaching some English classes, playing ga
mes and sports with village kids, and heading to neighboring villages to share the gospel. We use our skills of attracting a lot of attention and our Thai friends will present the message. It’s a brilliant plan.
Our Thai Mom is cooking for us every meal and I’m sure we are experiencing the best cuisine Thailand has to offer. Everything is homemade and I didn’t even know the extent of it until I was assigned to dinner prep. It all started with a machete and a couple coconuts, fast forward an hour and you have fresh coconut milk to use for your coconut curry dish. I can’t believe how much work goes into one meal here not to mention the ridiculous arm workout I got scraping the meat out of the coconuts. It’s a good thing, too because we are eating sticky rice almost every meal to accompany our delectable Thai entrees…and I LOVE STICKY RICE..or as they say here, Khow Neow.
Here’s a picture recap of dinner making….
