This is a journal entry I wrote during my training camp that I felt the Lord asked me to share in a blog. I didn’t know when until now. I edited out a few details for the sake of letting you experience the fullness of training camp if you have never been.

Here it is:

“October 22nd, 2015

On Tuesday night, our whole squad gathered together to have dinner outside. I brought my guitar to training camp, and some people asked me to start leading worship. So I did.

I played How He Loves and One Thing Remains, and I felt the Holy Spirit lead me to sing the chorus of the song He gave me, “I Need You.”

(Side-note not in the journal: I was freaking terrified.)

I stopped playing and one of the girls asked me to lead them in the whole song. I had shared a dream with her earlier in the day that the Lord had given me. He gave me a dream when I was in Master’s Commission to lead nations into His Presence with the songs He gives me.

I led worship again yesterday morning for the squad

I had been wondering this whole time why I had been dragging my guitar everywhere. Honestly, I’ve been mad about it. It felt pointless.

And then, Holy Spirit showed me.

These were the reasons why.

And one more thing happened.

A friend of mine from my squad named Hery came up to me and told me the lyrics of that song were her heart’s cry put into words. She said up until then, she didn’t know the words to express it.

Now, I know.”

Carrying around my guitar for those 10 days wasn’t easy, but it was most certainly worth it.

Practical tips:

I drove to Training Camp so I got away with a gig bag, but to be honest, it made me nervous because I only have one acoustic.

Coordinate with your squad because you don’t need a bunch of guitars at Training Camp because you’ll be near each other. It’s not like the Race where you’re on different teams and you need your own.

The final tip: be generous and gracious with your guitar. Let people mess around on it, let them play it, and don’t be weird. If this is a struggle for ya, pray into it.
