It’s the end of our second week in Haiti, serving at Mission of Hope, and on Friday, our squad got to go to a couple of villages to play with kids.
This was my team’s first time into the villages since being here.
The first village we went to was called Leveque.
Prior to the earthquake in 2010, Leveque did not exist. Samaritan’s Purse made temporary tarp homes in the area that is now known as Leveque for people who needed to relocate after the earthquake.
These homes were meant to last 6 months, and were supposed to be replaced by block homes. Some have been replaced, while some still remain inhabited after almost 6 years.
When we arrived, we walked up a hill to a playground where we waited for students to be dismissed to recess.
As we waited, I looked at all of these homes and just took in how God doesn’t need anything to make something happen. And I was greatly reminded that God causes all things to work together for the good of those who love Him and are called according to His purposes.
Romans 8:28 And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, and are called according to His purpose.
All of the sudden, the lions, I mean, children, were unleashed.
This little girl whose name I can still not pronounce, came running up to me. (In my defense, her name is 6 syllables, she mumbled it the 5 times I asked her to repeat it, and she primarily spoke Creole.)
All I know, is I fell in love with this kid and she has a place in my heart.
She hugged me, and would not leave my side. She reaches her arms up, so I carried her around however long we were there.
We walked, spun, and talked to the best of our abilities. Hahaha
As the kids had to go back to class and we had to leave, I gave her one last hug, and headed for the bus.
As I headed back, I felt a sadness of saying goodbye, but a joy of how God used a tragic natural disaster to create a home and place for these kids to be ministered to and loved on, on a regular basis.
May we never stop looking for how the Lord is at work.
Note to my supporters and prayer partners:
Thank you so much for all you have done to make this possible for me. I am less than $1200 from being fully funded, which is awesome! The remaining amount is due by April 30th.
I will post more pictures when we land in Atlanta for our layover on March 4th. I will have better internet access then.
My prayer requests:
My teammate Michele has to have her gall bladder removed in the capital. The surgery will be done well, and she will fully recover quickly.
Would minister where ever needed.
That the Lord would continue to reveal himself to us and who we are in Him.
And He would prepare our hearts for what is to come and He would anoint, guide, bless, direct, and connect our connections.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 He has made everything appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning, even to the end.
