When we got to Launch, everything felt very surreal. After reconnecting with squadmates and teammates, and saying goodbye to our families, we had one more night of sleep in the US.
Our day started around 3:00 AM when we got up to meet in a conference room at 3:30. We split into 3 groups to take shuttles to the airport. My team and one other team were the first wave to leave at 4:00AM. We got on our first shuttle at the hotel and went to change shuttles at the airport.
We all didn’t fit on the second shuttle, so a few people stayed behind to catch the next one and the rest of us continued to our drop off.
As we rode in the shuttle, for the second time, we made small talk until we felt a heavy jolt and a loud crash. We thought the shuttle had ramped a curb or popped a tire.
In reality, a car went to merge onto the road we were on and rear-ended our shuttle. Then they proceeded to sideswipe us to carry onto the airport. So yes, we experienced a hit and run. They whipped when they should have nae naed.
We sat there while some were more rattled than others, waiting for a shuttle to come get us. All while this happened, I felt this unexplainable sense of peace.
Peace in the fact that I was exactly where I was supposed to be at exactly the right time. Peace in the fact that my Father protected us.
We had a few other small problems as the day progressed and that was okay. It’s all part of traveling.
We left the airport in Santo Domingo to head to our home for the month in La Vega. So far, we had torn down a house and begun building a new one in it’s place for a woman named Chave. It has been hard work, but it has been beyond worth it to serve these incredible people. We have been very well taken care of here. We have a great house to stay in, we have been beyond well fed, and we are serving an incredible ministry called Global Effect.
We have installed water filters for people who didn’t have clean drinking water and told them about Jesus. And we did an outreach for children.
I have some vision for this year from the Lord and I have learned some things already that I am so excited to share.
So stay tuned to find out. Thank you to my supporters because without you, I wouldn’t be able to be serving in the capacity that I am. Subscribe to my blog to stay up to date with my World Race. I’ll post more and pictures soon!
